I started working at Everett Transmission the day I turned sixteen in 1974. I started as a remover and installer of transmissions. Soon I got involved in the tear down procedures and then the rebuilding of the units. I personally have rebuilt over 20,000 transmissions. I have been the owner of Everett Transmission since 1994. Transmissions are not a job to me, they have been in my life day and night for 42 years. My hobbies revolve mostly around mechanical things such as motorcycles, go fast boats, ski mobiles, dirt bikes, Corvettes, and Porsches.

A healthy automatic transmission plays a vital role in ensuring a smooth and efficient driving experience. It’s responsible for shifting gears seamlessly as your car accelerates and decelerates. When your transmission starts to fail, it can lead to increasingly expensive repairs if not addressed quickly. At Everett Transmission & Auto Repair, we provide expert automatic transmission repair in the greater Everett, MA area. Here are four common warning signs of an automatic transmission problem. Slipping Gears While Driving One of the most noticeable signs of transmission trouble is gear slippage. This happens when your vehicle suddenly changes gears for no apparent reason or when it seems to shift in and out of gear without any input. You might notice a loss of power while accelerating, or the engine might rev without the car picking up speed. Slipping gears can create dangerous driving situations, especially when merging or driving on highways. Delayed or Rough Shifting If your transmission hesitates or jerks when shifting between gears, it’s a clear indication that something isn’t working as it should. Healthy transmissions should shift smoothly and promptly. A delay in shifting from park to drive, or hard shifts between gears, could signal low or contaminated transmission fluid, worn components, or internal damage. Unusual Noises Coming from the Transmission A properly functioning automatic transmission should operate quietly. If you begin hearing strange sounds like whining, humming, or clunking, it could indicate that parts inside the transmission are wearing out or that fluid levels are too low. Any unusual sound coming from your transmission should be investigated by a professional as soon as possible. Leaking Transmission Fluid Transmission fluid is essential for cooling, lubrication, and hydraulic pressure. If you see reddish fluid leaking under your vehicle, it could be a sign of a faulty seal or a damaged transmission pan. Transmission fluid leaks are often the root cause of many transmission problems because they can quickly lead to overheating. Checking your fluid levels regularly and addressing leaks early can help save you from major repairs. Regular maintenance and careful attention can help prevent costly repairs and ensure that your engine runs smoothly for years to come. At Everett Transmission & Auto Repair, we provide expert engine repair and maintenance in the greater Everett, MA area. Here are four tips to help you maintain a healthy engine. Change the Oil Regularly One of the simplest ways to help keep your engine in top shape is by changing the oil regularly. Engine oil lubricates the moving parts, reduces friction, and helps prevent overheating. Over time, oil can become contaminated with debris, which can cause engine wear and damage. It’s important to always follow the manufacturer’s recommended oil change intervals. Regular oil changes will help keep your engine running efficiently and prevent unnecessary strain on its components. Replace Air and Fuel Filters Your engine needs clean air and fuel to operate efficiently. Over time, air and fuel filters can become clogged with dirt, debris, and other particles, restricting airflow and fuel flow to the engine. This can lead to poor engine performance and reduced fuel-efficiency. Regularly replacing the air and fuel filters, as recommended by your vehicle’s manufacturer, is a simple way to maintain proper engine function. A clean filter ensures that your engine gets the right amount of air and fuel for optimal performance. Keep the Cooling System Healthy The cooling system plays a critical role in regulating your engine’s temperature. A malfunctioning cooling system can lead to overheating, which can cause severe engine damage. To keep your engine cool, ensure that the radiator, thermostat, and water pump are in good working condition. Regularly check the coolant levels after your engine has cooled down, and look for leaks in the system. If your vehicle begins to overheat, don’t ignore it—take immediate action to address the problem. Pay Attention to Warning Signs Your vehicle will often provide clues when something is wrong with the engine. Unusual noises, like knocking or tapping, as well as the check engine light, can be signs of underlying issues. Pay attention to these warning signals and have your vehicle inspected by the mechanic as soon as possible. Addressing small issues early can help prevent them from turning into more expensive repairs. Catching early warning signs of engine trouble can help you address issues before they become major problems. At Everett Transmission & Auto Repair, we provide expert engine diagnostics and repair in the greater Everett, MA area. Here’s a look at four common warning signs of an engine problem. Strange Noises Coming from the Engine Unusual sounds coming from your engine can indicate serious issues. Knocking noises may be a sign of worn-out bearings. Squealing sounds often point to a loose or damaged belt, while hissing noises could indicate a vacuum leak. If your engine starts making abnormal noises, it’s best to get it checked immediately to help prevent further damage. Discolored/Excessive Exhaust Smoke The color and amount of exhaust smoke can reveal a lot about your engine’s health. Thick, black smoke could indicate that your engine is burning too much fuel. White smoke may signal coolant leaking into the combustion chamber, which could mean a blown head gasket. Blue smoke suggests that oil is burning. Any discolored or excessive exhaust smoke should be addressed promptly to avoid further complications. Decreased Performance and Power Loss If your vehicle struggles to accelerate or loses power while driving, you’ll want to alert the mechanic. A failing fuel pump or ignition system problems are potential issues that can contribute to poor performance. A malfunctioning sensor, such as the mass airflow sensor or oxygen sensor, can also cause the engine to run inefficiently. If you notice sluggish acceleration or reduced power, it’s important to have your engine diagnosed before the issue worsens. Check Engine Light Illuminates The check engine light is one of the most common indicators of engine trouble. While it can sometimes be triggered by minor issues, such as a loose gas cap, it can also signal more serious problems like misfires, emissions system failures, or sensor malfunctions. If the light comes on, it’s crucial to have diagnostics conducted. Ignoring the check engine light can lead to more significant engine damage and expensive repairs.
